Physiotherapy Treatments

Here at Mesa Chiropractic PLLC, we incorporate many physical therapies, or physiotherapy modalities in our treatments to help decrease inflammation in acute injuries or chronic pain.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation -

Our most common physiotherapy treatment is Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS). Electrical stimulation is a therapy in which pads that stick to the skin send electric impulses into the muscles and nerves. During EMS,  the impulses sent to the muscles makes them contract. By causing repeated muscle contractions, blood flow improves, helping repair injured muscles. Those muscles also improve their strength through repeated cycles of contraction and relaxation. Electrical stimulation helps to decrease pain by numbing the area and fatiguing the muscles, which helps relax muscle spasming. Our E-Stim treatments are relaxing and therapeutic, and a heating pad is provided for added comfort.

Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) -

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. Devices that utilize PEMF technology emit electromagnetic waves at different frequencies in order to stimulate and encourage your body’s natural recovery process.  PEMF technology provides the magnetic field necessary to contract, expand, and heal damaged cells. Being in this productive magnetic field enables the cells to circulate nutrients better, to move blood-oxygen through cells, and helps cells to detoxify. Additionally, the Magnetic Field might help the cells to re-charge themselves. Once recharged, the once damaged or impaired cells are healthy again.

Percussion Therapy/Percussive Massage -

In percussion therapy, a high-intensity and high-powered mechanical massager is applied to your problem areas to administer a rapid series of taps to your muscles and tissues.  Percussive massage accelerates the growth and repair of tissues by providing concentrated, rapid, short-duration pulses deep into the tissues of the body.  This heavily increases blood flow to the area causing pain relief and an increasing range of motion and function.  Percussive massage also provides a gentle stretch to the muscles and connective tissues improving responsiveness and performance.
